Filed under: Poker Rules and Games,Poker Strategy — admin @ 8:53 am

In most card games like Poker, bluffing is the best you can do to let your opponents believe that you have the winning cards. This is also very useful when playing Texas Hold ‘em, as similar strategies in this game, will see similar results.
Having a good Poker Strategy is the best way to succeed is to start to learn more about bluffing and the techniques required, like using your eyes and putting on a good act which will help you to deliver bluffing tactics accurately.
You should also learn how to balance your bluffs, and execute them at the correct time, because poker is a complicated and unpredictable game. You can’t always do bluffs for it can also make you lose in the end.
While bluffing is one way to win, you can never do it until you know the basic information about it. Bluffing actually has two types one being Semi and the other being Pure bluffs.
A Semi bluff is when a player bets on a hand that is not complete, for instance, betting on 2,3,4,5 in the hope that later, an Ace or a two would appear, creating a straight. A pure bluff is when a player bets on what they consider a poor hand, essentially, hoping the other player will fold. Remember that the goal for bluffing is getting even, even with inferior cards. Accurate bluffing can be implemented by analyzing the other players, as well as the cards on the table, and in your hand, it’s your key to a successful card game.

The poker procedure

Filed under: Poker Rules and Games — admin @ 11:45 am

Another back to basics posts here, so those of you, who are experienced, may want to miss this one out!

In a poker game, every round, players have a choice of five options to choose from, after they have evaluated the hand they have, or how good it could potentially be if the right cards come out.

Players can choose to check, which will include no bet or raise, or extra wager on the table. If all players choose to check, the round will be complete and the match will proceed.

Players can choose to Bet, this will result in the player clockwise, taking action, fold, raise or call.

Players can choose to fold, this is the player basically exiting that round, and therefore, has no right to the end pot, but won’t have to put any more money into that round.

Players can choose to call, this happens if another player has bet, a call is just one player matching another players bet.

Finally a player can choose to raise. For a raise to happen, a bet needs to have taken place previously, and raising means that a player not only matches a bet, but to also make a larger bet.

Back to Basics – hands

Filed under: Poker Rules and Games — admin @ 8:02 am

As a poker player, and hopefully one of the future PokerStars you’ll need to be able to analyze what’s on the table, and be able to evaluate not only what hand you have, but the possibility of what other players could have, and essentially, how strong your hand is compared to theirs.

The easiest way to learn hands is to read through the listing below, and deal yourself a few so you know you completely understand. They are in order of the highest ranking hands, with the first being the highest, and the last being the lowest.

The rankings are as follows royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, one pair, high card.

A royal flush is the dream hand, it’s a straight from ten to ace, but of course, all of the cards are the same suit.

Example:

A, K, Q, J, 10 of diamonds.

A straight flush is a very strong hand, and is any five cards in order, but of course, the same suit. If two players have a straight flush, the player whose flush ends the highest, wins.

Example:

5, 6, 7, 8, 9 of clubs.

Four of a kind is any four cards of the same value.

Example:

Four Queens.

A Full house consists of three of a kind, and a pair.

Example:

10, 10, 10, 3, 3, this would be beaten by J, J, J, 2, 2

A Flush is just five cards of the same suit, and they don’t have to be in order, with the highest card determining the rank of the particular flush.

Example:

2, 4, 7, 9, K of diamonds

A straight is made up of five cards in order, with ace available to be used as the lowest and highest card. If two players have a straight, the player who’s flush ends the highest, wins.

Example:

2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (any suit)

Three of a kind is any three cards of the same value.

Example:

Three queens

Two pair consists as the name suggests of two sets of pairs. The highest pair of the two pair will make up the rank of the hand.

Example:

2, 2 and 8, 8

One pair consists of just one pair of cards, at the same rank

Example:

2, 2

Any hand where none of the above is available the hand will be won or lost on a high card.

Example:

Ace (highest)
