Playing to many hands – When to fold

Filed under: Poker Basics,Poker Strategy — admin @ 9:01 am

Following on from the last post of playing to many hands, I guess most beginners are thinking, “When do we fold?”

There is no solid answer, but from your experience and others experience, you need to determine hands you play, and hands you don’t, some use a scoring system based on:

• The difference in numerical value
• The Same suit
• The actual numerical value
• Pairs

Each section might be scored on points, so you can evaluate your hand and take a calculated risk on your hand. The same selection process must be taken after the flop.

The problem is, its sods law, when you fold with a 2/7, two sevens and a two come on the table, but from a starting position, starting with A/A or 10/10 puts you in a lot better position.

Poker Tip – Playing too many hands

Filed under: Poker Basics,Poker Strategy — admin @ 7:32 am

A lot of players tend to play far, far to many starting hands, in fact, a lot go in on every single hand.

By going in on every hand, you’re simply killing your profits, while drawing out your losses.

Typically, the big money players tend to go in on anything between 15-25% of their starting hands, with many of these hands folding after they’ve seen the flop.

By concentrating your efforts on a lower percentage of hands, you stand a better chance of winning a lot more compared to what you stake. Of course, this doesn’t mean your going to be a winner, but it eliminates the frustration of loosing so much before a hand comes in, and not having enough to play big on that hand, as well as not letting other opponents know your game plan.

In general, higher value starter hands tend to be a favorite, although I tend to always do well on pocket pair, any way, choose a system, and stick to it, fluctuations to do emotional changes and the biggest drawdown in a players game.

As of today, cash withdrawals in New South Wales based casinos, will be banned, and therefore, illegal, according to the latest, local government legislation. Alongside the latest change, large winnings in the form of cheques will also be an invalid form of gambling money until cashed and withdrawn from another location.

Gaming venues across New South Wales may be tempted to break the rules, in the hope that profits will continue as usual, although a $11,000 deterrent will be issued to offenders.
